GOODNIGHT VIENNA
Music by George Posford
Tettenhall Operatic Company’s production of Goodnight Vienna, written in 1936 by George Posford and Eric Maschwitz and revised in 1968 performed in May 2015. After a number of years of performing elsewhere, we were delighted to be ‘coming home’ to the Towers Theatre, Tettenhall College where performances are from Thursday 28th to Saturday 30th May.
Goodnight Vienna is set in Vienna at the start of the 1st World War and involves the relationship of Greta who owns a flower shop and Count Max. His father, Prince Schmettoff, as a member of the nobility, does not approve and wants his son to marry The Countess Helga. The war intervenes and the couple lose contact with each other until they finally reunite at The House in the Trees, a famous restaurant in Vienna.
Goodnight Vienna is full of lovely tunes and contains an excellent mix of romance and comedy. It is very much in the tradition of operetta revivals that Tettenhall Operatic has come to specialise in over the years. People who came to our Spring Concert Two’s Company will recognise the title number ‘Goodnight Vienna’; there are also waltzes, romantic songs and comedy numbers. The music is lovely!
