La Perichole
Performances were at Smestow School, Castlecroft, Wolverhampton on Thursday 27th - Saturday 29th June at 7.30pm.
The production is in 3 acts and set in 1750 in Lima, Peru, a place where pomposity, intrigue and love can flourish unabated. It is as romantic, light hearted and tuneful as any of the famous Offenbach compositions and features the lovely “Letter Song”. The title role is being performed by Sheila Smith with Mike Rawlings taking the part of Piquillo and Adrian Peakman as Don Andrez, the Viceroy.
The story focuses on La Périchole, who is a travelling entertainer and scrapes a living by singing and dancing on the streets of Lima, together with her partner, Piquillo. She is introduced into the Viceroy’s court for his nefarious purposes in a most peculiar way and a very strange wedding takes place and then the story starts to unfold…………….
